In Michael Schönpflug´s works, an iridescent interplay of colors appears to seek out its expanses and appointed places in an entirely carefree manner, but is kept in check by rigid geometric forms and strongly contrasting lines. His paintings are snapshots of a constant state of motion, captured with pallet knife and roller. Using his pallet knife, the artist makes a relentless impression on both canvas and paint, leaving behind deep rifts and furrows that are then smoothed out with the roller in an almost conciliatory fashion, changing beyond recognition the compositions originally created. Born in 1966, Michael Schönpflug studied architecture, but subsequently dedicated himself to painting and has worked as a freelance artist since the turn of the exhibitions in Germany and Austria.
