The Belgian painter René Magritte was born in 1898 in Lessines and died in Brussels in 1967. Critics and art lovers are equally fascinated by the magic effect of his works which results from the unexpected juxtaposition of familiar objects. The study of the mysterious nature of human thought characterizes the distinctive style of the ”visual grammar“ created by him.
Many pictures by René Magritte who studied in Brussels at the Academy of Beaux Arts are today owned by private collectors, various galleries and museums, amongst others the Museum of Modern Art in New York.
