Edouard Manet is considered the pioneer of modern painting and was one of the most important painters of classic realism.
In the center of his artwork are figures and persons depicted in an exciting contrast to their dimensional surroundings. Ahead of his time, Manet reduced the contrast of light and shade and used colors over large areas.
Manet was born in 1832 in Paris and first worked in the studio of the historical painter Thomas Couture. Later on, he went on numerous study trips. Edouard Manet died at the age of 51 in Paris.
