Alphonse Mucha, who was born in Moravia in 1860 and died in Prague in 1939, is considered one of the most important representatives of Art Nouveau, especially because of his billboard art. Mucha studied in Munich, Vienna and Paris, where he was confronted with Art Nouveau. His preferred motif are women which have an air of mystery and fascination about them due to the symbolistic presentation and the characteristic stroke of the brush. The combination of this incomparable artistic style and the floral elements of the Art Nouveau impart an extraordinary decorative atmosphere to his billboards. Mucha‘s posters and stage designs for Sarah Bernhardt made him famous in the turn-of-the-century Paris.
