Whether it is scenes at the horse race, theater, opera, coffeeshop, or pictures of dancers, or women washing and ironing – the variety of everyday life is what fascinate Degas, who lived in Paris from 1834 to 1917, the most. The artist used tender, harmonious colors to create snapshots and details of paintings which led the observer into a world full of surprises. Unlike other impressionists, Degas did not cling to due to shadowy, sketchy drawings. His main concern was to seize a situation or a moment, an interest which is also probably due to his admiration for photography which at that time was still in its infancy.
